Step into the Odd and Fascinating World of Hair Collecting

Sunday March 31, 2013

The thought of collecting clippings of human hair may sound a little crazy to some, but it's actually rooted in a century old Victorian tradition. One hundred years ago, if a celebrity or political figure came to town, you didn't ask for their autograph like we do today, you would ask for a lock of their hair. An awaiting attendant would be on hand to snip a strand of hair and present it to the interested parties. This strange tradition is what allowed John Reznikoff access to what now makes up his collection which is recognized by the Guinesse Book of World Records as the largest collection of famous and historical figure's hair clippings. Read on to learn more about this fascinating hobby.  You'll be surprised at what this collection holds.

Now more than ever, product technology is advancing exponentially. It's our job to stay up to date.

Hair and Beauty trade shows are a great way to get inspired, which will help you retain the clients you already have, and gain new ones. So check out this list of hair and beauty trade shows for 2013 and start marking your calendars!

Tip - The cost of your trade show ticket can be written off at tax time.

Would You Charge $1200 for a Hair Cut?

Friday December 21, 2012

Ted Gibson

Ted Gibson, the man behind the world's most expensive hair cut at $900, has upped his own ante and raised his price to $1200. What?! This decision has been praised in the press for elevating the value of our services, but personally I think it's a little nuts.  Trust me - I've stood next to Ted while he's performed one of his "experiences", as he calls them, and though the man can cut and style like the best of them, I see no logic in taking $1200 from someone just because you gave them a haircut and a really good head massage. Sorry Ted, I love you, but personally I think charging that much makes a joke out of our industry and our services. What do you think?
